Operate Now: Shoulder Surgery is a realistic surgery game. You get to take on the role of a surgeon. Today, you’ll be helping a patient with a shoulder injury that won’t heal properly without an operation.
Today, your patient is a young man called Noah. He’s hurt his shoulder while playing tennis, and the injury is causing him a lot of pain. You’ll have to diagnose what’s wrong with his shoulder, and perform an operation to help Noah recover.
There are two game modes in this surgery game. You start the game as a surgical in training. Your experienced OR nurse, Lara, will help you by explaining each of the steps. She’ll tell you which surgical instruments you need, and what to use them for.
First, you’ll need to find out what’s wrong with your patient’s shoulder. Take Noah to get an ultrasound scan. This will allow you to check if the tendon in his shoulder is torn.
To repair Noah’s severely torn rotator cuff, you’ll perform an arthroscopic surgery. Create a small incision with a scalpel, so that you can insert a tiny camera called an arthroscope. By inserting the surgical tools through buttonhole surgery, you can carefully reattach the torn tendon with minimal scarring.
You’ll have to trim away a part of the subacromial bursa, a small sac that is filled with fluid and acts as a cushion to protect your shoulder joint when you move. You’ll also have to prepare the bone of the humeral head, so that you can anchor the torn tendon with surgical screws.
You did it! Noah’s tendon has been reattached, and with enough rest and some physical therapy, he’ll be able to move his shoulder normally again!
Once you’ve completed the surgery, you can unlock the expert mode. Now, you can try to perform the same surgery again, but without Lara’s help. Do you still remember exactly how to do the operation and save your patient?
