How to play Poker Texas Hold‘em?
Each player receives two cards. These are called the hole cards. In the course of the game, five cards will also be placed on the table, facing up. These are the community cards. Players can use these to complete their poker hand.
The community cards are dealt in three stages (“the flop”, “the turn”, “the river”), with rounds of betting in between. During the getting rounds, players can choose to fold, check, raise, call, or fold. If you’re not that familiar with poker, here’s what that means:
- Check - If nobody has bet before you in the current round, you can pass the action without changing your bet.
- Raise - Increase the current bet.
- Call - When another player has made a bet before you, you can match their bet.
- Fold - Give up your bet and sit out the rest of the round. You do not need to show anyone your cards when you fold.
The betting rounds happen before the flop, and then after each stage of dealing the community cards.
The aim is to get the best possible poker hand using your hole cards and the community cards on the table. Or, convince others that you have the better hand. If they believe you, they might choose to fold.
By the end of the round, the player who is still in the game and has the best hand wins all the bets other players have placed in the course of that round.
