Piñata Cookies: Sara’s Cooking Class is a fun cooking game which includes a real recipe for colorful cookies. When you break open these piñata cookies, small candies will spill.

Just like a real piñata, these sugar cookies are super colorful. You make them out of layers of cookie dough dyed different colors. These cookies are lots of fun to make!

The piñata cookie first appeared online in 2011. By 2012 it had become a big viral hit and everyone was making them. Follow Sara’s easy step-by-step instructions and this internet-famous cookie for yourself!

How to play Piñata Cookies: Sara’s Cooking Class?

Sara’s already placed all of the ingredients and utensils you’ll need on the counter. Look at the images in the top left corner to see which ingredients you need to add to the bowl. Do everything in the right order, as shown.

Making the dough:

First, you’re going to make the dough for the sugar cookies. It’s an easy recipe, so this won’t take much time at all.

The next steps are a little bit more time-consuming, but super fun. You get to color the dough in all kinds of bright colors! Layer the colored dough in a container and let it sit in the fridge.

Once the dough is thoroughly cool, take it out of the container and cut it into thin slices, around 1/4 inch / 0.65 cm wide. Bake the sliced dough in the oven at 350ºF / 175ºC for 12 minutes.

Making the cookies:

When you remove the tray from the oven, immediately use a cookie cutter to cut the cookies into the shape of a burro or donkey. You have to do this while the cookies are still hot, so be careful! The more the cookies cool down, the more likely they are to crumble and break.

You’ll need three layers per cookie. For the middle layer, trim away the ears and legs, and cut out the centre with a smaller cookie cutter. This rectangle will become the pocket for the hidden candy.

Stick the middle layer onto the bottom layer with frosting. Fill the cut-out with candy. Then, stick the top layer on top with more frosting. When you are done, let the cookies harden for at least 30 minutes before you stand them upright.

Your piñata cookies are ready to party!
